Thank you. The situation could be solvable if the writers would just let Adrien be something other than be the mouthpiece that is only passive unless he is lecturing the main character about a topic he really doesn’t understand. It’s not that his behavior is so poor, it’s that he is constantly being portrayed as the one in the right regardless of how poorly he acts or how wrong his “lesson of the day” is. Let Ladybug call him out for being a brat. Let Kagami be the one to see how indecisive he is and end any potential relationship. Let Marinette see that he isn’t always right and she doesn’t have to base her decisions on his feelings. Let there be real consequences to his behaviors the way they seem to do for Marinette. It’s one of the reasons I feel that Felix would have been a better choice. Sure, he was unlikeable, but at least the narrative would have had to acknowledge that and DO something with it.

Will I do a salt fic about him? I’ll admit, it is tempting. The closest I have now is Duplicity. Hopefully it will help with your need, though it is more angst than salt.

Flaws of Adrinette

Say the two DO eventually get married. Get the house, the three kids, everything. Okay.

But now imagine Chloe barging in at all points because of this or that, touching Adrien, flirting with him, taking their things, making fun of other people—all right in front of Marinette. Maybe even insulting Marinette herself while she’s at it. Imagine Chloe crashing their date nights because of some personal drama or just wanting attention, taking Adrien’s focus away from his girlfriend/wife to make it all about herself. Imagine Chloe pulling some stunt and Marinette being the one who has to deal with it just as she always has while Adrien does nothing, because that’s all he ever does when Chloe does any of these things.

Imagine the children throwing tantrums or acting out. Imagine Marinette trying to discipline them and Adrien being the one who constantly gives in and ends up enabling and encouraging their bad behavior. Because he sees arguing as making things worse. And regardless of what he says, a child isn’t going to really be inclined to listen to a lecture when they know there is no reason to.

Imagine that mindset as the head of a company? Imagine that mindset when dealing with a competitive business world filled with rivals who AREN’T going to follow those same standards?

Imagine Marinette, after struggling with all the above and having a very difficult time with ANYTHING being given a lecture by her own husband about being the bigger person and not doing anything about a clear problem. No support. No validation. Not even a viable solution to the problem. Just being constantly talked to about being the “bigger person” by doing nothing.

Does that sound like a good family man?

Give him credit, he’s able to call out Marinette/Ladybug on some of her behaviors and set her straight when she’s doing something she shouldn’t. That’s good. The problem is that he’s generally calling her out on the WRONG THINGS. Like being jealous of Volpina instead of how she was overly rude in calling out Lila. Or how she should listen to and believe Chloe after she actively lied to and misinformed her previously instead of needing to control her own emotions so they don’t get the better of her. Or focusing on how Ladybug lost a Miraculous instead of the clear and present danger that was Chloe having a Miraculous at all and using it to nearly kill a train full of people?

A relationship means that two individuals are working off each other to better themselves and function as a single unit. But how many times has Adrien gone off on his own over what amounts to a tantrum? How many times has he put Paris as a whole at risk because of his downright childish antics? How many times has he gone out of his way to defend people doing wrong instead of helping his friends harmed by that wrong? How many times has Adrien himself done some incredibly selfish things for his own interests without concern as to how anyone else would be effected? How many times has he turned around and lectured Marinette/Ladybug to make her feel bad about things that she really shouldn’t have had to feel bad about?

What gives any indication that this dynamic would suddenly change if the two got together?

Lets not forget that the Origins episode itself highlighted the lesson that “the only thing needed for evil to win is for good people to do nothing”. Marinette not doing anything in that episode would have gotten Alya and Chloe killed. Probably Adrien as well. And caused Paris to be doomed. That’s an important lesson that is the starting point of her transformation into Ladybug. But all we see afterwards, particularly with or outright because of Adrien is how to be the good people who do nothing. Precisely because Adrien IS the good people who does nothing. Unless apparently it is something for himself.

You know i feel like that cliche ‘Adrien saw Ladybug detransform into Marinette in an alley and when she sees him she gets flustered or panicked or in denial or she kind of begs him not to say anything’ could go in another way. Honestly for me, if Marinette saw him after detransforming she would just slam him into a wall interrogating him on what he saw and basically threatening him if he says anything.

Marinette: if i hear you said anything anything about me, i’m not tying you to the Eiffle Tower. Oh no i’m taking you into the catacombs and taking your phone so no one could trace you

Adrien (forgetting for a second that he could cataclysm out): Eep

She wouldnt really see Adrien’s face she would just see that now someone has the ability to endanger all her other loved ones and she should make sure he’s quiet. And she kind of leaves him there in that alley. And Adrien is terrified and turned on while Plagg just cackles away.

It’s only when she’s in her room that it registers that she just basically threatened Adrien and she just shuts down for a minute.

I like the idea. It certainly is a nice change from the usual portrayal of either having them out themselves at once and start dating or one screwing with the other for giggles.

Adrien: Marinette is Ladybug!

Plagg: Yep.

Adrien: Maribug! Ladynette! They’re the same person!

Plagg: Sure is.

Adrien: And she CONFESSED TO ME AND I TURNED HER DOWN!

Plagg: Uh, Adrien? Your head is bleeding. Is that really what you’re going to focus on right now?

Knowing Marinette and this show’s treatment of her specifically, I’d also imagine it growing into wacky shenanigans.

Like she realizes he saw her her detransform. She panics.So she slams him into a wall and accidentally knocks him out. Cue more panic.

Plagg comes out, torn between laughter and indignation because “what the HELL, Spots?” She panics even more.

Tikki and Plagg try to talk while Marinette is panicking over how she knocked out her crush and omg he’s Chat Noir! But he’s Adrien! Adrien has been flirting with her as Chat Noir! And omg Adrien knows she’s Ladybug! And she knocked him out! What if the blow caused damage and he gets amnesia and Gabriel decides public school is too dangerous because of it so Adrien has to be homeschooled and thinks he’s dating Lila—

Adrien wakes up a bit at this point, is very groggy, and comments. “Why am I dating Lila now?”

Marinette screams and hits him again.

I know it's a kids show, and I know it's not supposed to be "deep" or taken seriously, but there had to be casualties in Syren. Before brat Chat comes back after getting his way, he'd have to have missed said casualties. Marinette didn't. I don’t accept the “kid’s show” answer as justification for a show having poor lessons and behavior. Kid Shows have gotten surprisingly dark and serious in the past. But you are right. It’s probably one of the times we should be grateful that the series isn’t realistic.

Because yeah, people should have died in that. Hell, Hawk Moth’s lair should have been submerged as well. And if you think about it, in order to flood Paris, Syren would have to increase the sea level by quite a bit. Odds are that multiple other places across the world would also be flooded as well. We thought Zombizou was bad? That was a PG zombie apocalypse scenario. This is nature and nature is not kind. If this was realistic, there would be a multitude of bodies floating in the water. So not only would Marientte be hearing a number of calls for help, she would have to swim past those who weren’t fortunate enough to get above the rising water. No Miraculous Cure would remove the images or sounds.

Marinette will probably need therapy.

I agree with a lot with what you criticize about ML and I understand why you're so upset about it. It shows that you care about this show and want it to be better. It upsets me that the writers don't try to make Adrien a better character and I feel like people hate him now. It makes me sad because he has so much potential and I love him a lot. But he keeps being bratty and doesn't learn. I still want to have hope that he'll learn but if he keeps being like this what is the point?

It literally could be fixed by just…framing it like he’s in the wrong. And having him have to think about what he’s done.

It’s FINE he has brat moments, it’s OKAY that he’s sometimes selfish…if you make him learn from it. If he felt as sorry for messing up as the story makes Marinette, if he ACTUALLY apologized to the people he’s wronged. That is all it would take to fix Adrien, imo.

For the sake of this: Nette = salty twin, Marinette (Mari) = sweet twin, Quartet = quartet Marinette, and Grabnette = akuma grabbing Marinette

Nette: So there are now 2 more of us?

Mari: Looks like it. Guys if you need a place to crash then I’m sure-

Quartet: I’ll just crash at the Agreste’s. If that’s constant then Gabriel won’t leave enough to even notice I’m there
